Open-source learning platform for universities in developing countries. Most students at African universities can't afford ChatGPT, and course materials live on random WhatsApp groups or don't exist digitally at all. UniNotepad puts everything in one place: course materials, an AI study assistant, task management, and messaging. This started as LUSL Notepad at Limkokwing University Sierra Leone in early 2026. Students used it, we learned what worked, and rebuilt it from scratch so any university can run their own instance.

Overall Assessment

UniNotepad is a strong DPG candidate. It passes all 9 criteria with substantive implementations — not placeholder code. The project has real user traction (deployed at Limkokwing University Sierra Leone), comprehensive documentation, a full test suite, and genuine SDG 4 impact through AI-powered study tools designed for students who cannot afford commercial alternatives. The three gaps to address before formal submission are: (1) add a CI/CD workflow (.github/workflows/) to run tests automatically, (2) add CSP/HSTS security headers to next.config.ts, and (3) provide a student-facing 'export my data' endpoint for individual data portability. These are quick wins (1-2 days of work combined). The unique combination of AI study tools + mobile money integration (Monime for Sierra Leone) + self-hostable architecture gives this project a compelling differentiation from existing LMS DPGs.
